Double Up Food Bucks Officially Launches at Coos Head Food Co-Op

Coos Head Food Co-Op, located at 353 S. 2nd St., in Coos Bay, OR, is excited to announce that Double Up Food Bucks are now officially accepted in our store as of March 6th, 2023. Moving forward, when customers use their EBT cards to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, they will automatically receive a voucher printed on their receipt worth up to $20 towards free fresh fruits and vegetables at their next visit.

Double Up Food Bucks are a national nonprofit organization dedicated to growing the health and wealth of communities through food. Double Up Food Bucks matches SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps) spent on fruits and vegetables. The program began in Michigan in 2009 and has since become a model for similar statewide programs, helping people across the country put nutritious food on the table by expanding access to healthy food and sparking economic opportunity.

Coos Head Food Co-Op is excited to join the effort to make fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible and cost-effective. Not only does this program support shoppers by reducing economic barriers, it also supports our local farmers who provide much of the produce we sell in our store.

Items eligible for Double Up Food Bucks are fresh fruits and vegetables only (nothing canned or pre-packaged, no added salt, sugar, preservatives). When customers purchase eligible items using their SNAP benefits, they will automatically receive a receipt with their matched Double Up Food Bucks dollar amount up to $20 printed at the bottom. Customers need to save these receipts in order to use them during future transactions.
