The Summer of Caring Is Here!

by | Jun 12, 2020 | Uncategorized

United Way of Southwestern Oregon announces our 2020 “Summer of Caring”! This year’s event has shifted to a three-month summer program to accommodate the safety of our community while assisting Coos County and Curry County seniors, persons with disabilities, and other residents in need of help with basic summer yard care.

Volunteers are needed! Individual/family volunteers will be matched to households on a project-by-project basis. (Teams of 8 or less will also be considered, and matched to projects where appropriate social distancing is available.) Please be able to provide your own transportation and lawncare tools. United Way will provide masks, hand sanitizer, basic first aid, work gloves, and other essential items. All Summer of Caring volunteers will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant or business; winners will be chosen weekly through August. To sign up to volunteer, contact us at (541) 267-5202 or email [email protected].

To see if your household qualifies for assistance through the Summer of Caring, please call (541) 267-5202 or email [email protected]. Inquiries will be accepted through August 14.

United Way’s 2020 “Summer of Caring” sponsors and supporters include the Coquille Tribal Community Foundation, the Rural Community Builder network, the Eugene and Marlaina Johnston Foundation, Southwestern Oregon Workforce Investment Board, Oregon Pacific Bank, Umpqua Bank, KDCQ 92.9 FM, and United Way Worldwide.

This volunteer opportunity, and many other opportunities to help out during the pandemic, are also available through Southwestern Oregon Workforce Investment Board’s new volunteer matchmaking system – sign up at https://www.sowib.org/volunteers to get connected with United Way of Southwestern Oregon and other local nonprofits in need of volunteer support.

Thank you for helping our southern coastal community LIVE UNITED!
