Coastline Libraries Update

by | Apr 10, 2020 | COVID-19

As a librarian, nothing pains me more than not being able to go into the library, greet members of my community every morning, and provide them with the services they need and want, especially in these uncertain times. In keeping with various local and state guidelines, all libraries in the Coastline Library System are currently closed to the general public though some are still offering limited services. We hope these closures will help keep our communities safe and help reduce the spread of Covid-19. Some of us are still working in our libraries while others, like myself, are working from home to keep our services afloat. Libraries across the country are reconsidering how they offer services and programs, moving many physical programs to virtual platforms. Some libraries are beginning to offer virtual programs. For instance, at Coos Bay Library, our monthly Spanglish! conversational program is now ¡Spanglish Virtual! and we will be meeting virtually to converse in Spanish until we are able to reunite in person. The North Bend Library is starting a series of health-related webinars next week. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any questions or to just stay connected to your library.
Below is an update on all the specific libraries but I would like to share an amazing story about the only library open in Illinois during the Covid-19 crisis from Ryan Dowd who runs a very large homeless shelter. So, if you need a feel-good story during these unpredictable times, watch the following two-minute video: https://youtu.be/Xf4dUzd85aU
